Krusader is an advanced, twin-panel (commander-style) file manager designed for KDE Plasma. Krusader also runs on other popular Linux desktop environments such as GNOME.

Back in December I did a post about digiKam's new tagging features. In that article I briefly mentioned another new feature that supports adding GPS coordinates to a photo's metadata. Today I'll explore how to do it.

While I don't know of any digital cameras that come with built-in GPS to automatically add coordinates, it is possible to use a GPS device to gather geolocation data separately. One device marketed for this purpose is Sony's GPS-CS1 GPS Device for CyberShot Digital Cameras. But if you are like me and don't own a GPS, don't despair, it's still easy to add the coordinates yourself.

digiKam can add coordinates in one of two ways. The first is by importing a GPX file and the second is by selecting a location from Google Maps. The coordinates you define through these methods include longitude, latitude, and altitude. If you use the Google Maps method then the altitude will always be set to 0. You can change it manually if you wish.

I used digiKam version 0.9 and kipi-plugins version 0.1.4 for this example.

Tworzenie zapasowych kopii danych jest bardzo ważne. Są nawet przypadki, w których jest to wręcz obowiązek – na przykład w firmach, czy na serwerach. Niestety prawie żaden użytkownik komputera nie myśli o robieniu kopii zapasowych swoich równie ważnych (dla niego samego) danych, prac, czy chociażby zdjęć z wakacji. A złośliwość rzeczy martwych jest bezwzględna, awaria dysku, a później płacz i lament, ;) z powodu utraty danych. Oczywiste jest to, że nie ma sensu tworzyć kopii zapasowych na tym samym dysku, ale w czasach tanich dysków, również dysków na USB prawie każdy może sobie pozwolić na to. A po za tym kopie możemy tworzyć na zdalnym komputerze/serwerze.

There is now an installer available that is distro independent. It is a script that downloads and installs Swiftfox in the /opt directory and attempts to use existing Firefox plugins. The installer is probably the best way for most users to install Swiftfox. If your distro is Debian based you will want to install using the deb files as the apt repository will provide automatic updating. More info is available at the deb file page.

Existing Firefox plugins should work with no additional configuration if you use the installer or deb file. If you install using the tarball or your plugins are not working you will want to make sure plugins are located in the directory ~/.mozilla/plugins or swiftfox/plugins.
